Did you say Novella?

I recently published my first novella. The Stand-Up is a Cozy Mystery Novella that is set in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. I wrote it because I had an author friend who suggested that I give "mystery" a try. Looking back over my previous works, it became apparent to me that all my books had some elements of "mystery" in them- although "mystery" was never intended to be the main theme or focus.

So- I started writing during Christmas of this past year. Because I knew that I did not have time to write an entire novel - I opted for writing a novella. To my surprise- I absolutely enjoyed writing the story. (For you that don't know- I have never written anything - knowing how the story will end.) Mid-way through the novella, I began to ponder the essential ending to the "Who done it" part of the story. This is when I realized that authors who write "mystery" or "thrillers" have to use more creativity than I ever imagined. Those authors are incredible. I have to admit that for several days I was "stumped". Fortunately for me, the ending came to me, after taking a much needed break playing with our labradoodle (Jasper). Once I had the ending in my head- I couldn't write fast enough. I hope you enjoy the Stand-Up when you have a chance to read it.

Right now, I am wrapping up my fourth novel which will be out this summer. I am so excited about this one that is set in the fictional town of Dicey Creek in 2019. This new "mystery" novel has already received high praise from some very talented authors who have read the draft version. I will be formally announcing it in the next few days. I am looking forward to sharing it with with those who like a clean story with many twists and turns.
